X-men Supreme Issue 142: Paranoid Paradigm

The X-men are facing unimaginable loss, upheaval, and hardship in the comics right now, as revealed in the recently-released Death of X event. It’s a sad, solemn time to be an X-men fan to say the least. Here in the X-men Supreme fanfiction series, however, things aren’t so dire. That’s not to say the situation is peachy. The X-men just endured a cosmic clash with D’ken and the Shi’ar Empire in the Outer Limits arc, one where Cyclops met up with his long lost father and Charles Xavier regained his ability to walk. It’s been eventful, but at least nobody has been sterilized.

With events like Death of X looming over the X-men comics, I find myself having more incentive to give X-men Supreme a greater sense of hope and intrigue. I don’t want every issue of this fanfiction series to be another story about things getting worse for mutants. That’s not very interesting, to say the least. It’s also not very realistic. In the chaotic real world, there are good times and there are bad times. They fluctuate in accord with conflicts and our ability to manage them. The X-men were able to manage the cosmic chaos with the Shi’ar in Outer Limits. Now, they’ll have to manage a different kind of chaos back on Earth.

Unfortunately, some of that chaos is their own fault. During the Outer Limits arc, the X-men had to tap the alien Warlock technology on Genosha just to get to D’ken. This ended up getting messy, causing one of the factories to explode and leaving the Scarlett Witch, Genosha’s current ruler no less, seriously injured. This comes shortly after the Scarlett Witch and the Brotherhood of Mutants endured a terrible loss at the hands of the Mutant Liberation Front. In their final showdown with the X-men, Polaris perished. It leaves the Scarlett Witch, Havok, and the rest of the Brotherhood upset and vulnerable.

The X-men’s sudden departure certainly didn’t help. Without any explanation or knowledge of the conflict with the Shi’ar, they’re left to make a lot of assumptions. Given the history of Genosha, complete with uprisings and attacks from ancient creatures, Havok and the Scarlett Witch are inclined to assume the worst. It’s not a flawed assumption, doesn’t bode well for the X-men or their allies. Things were already tenuous between Genosha and President Kelly. Now, they’re about to take a worse turn.

How bad will it get? What will this mean for X-men Supreme going forward? Well, to answer those questions, I must first do something that the X-men comics avoided doing until recently. I’m going to fill in the time gaps between what happened when the X-men ventured into space and when they returned. As I revealed at the end of the Outer Limits arc, the X-men were gone for six weeks. That’s a lot of time, given the circumstances of their departure. How bad could it possibly get in that time?

That’s what this issue will reveal. A new round of conflict is brewing in the X-men Supreme fanfiction series. This conflict is going to test the X-men in new ways. However, this time they’ll have new resources at their disposal. Thanks to Shi’ar medical technology, Charles Xavier can walk again and is free from the pain killer addiction that nearly destroyed the X-men. He’s back and he’s stronger than ever. Will the X-men share his strength? Will it be enough to meet these new challenges? First, they need to know what they’re up against and that’s what this issue of X-men Supreme will reveal.

X-men Supreme Issue 142: Paranoid Paradigm

I’ve said it once, but it’s worth saying again. It’s a tough time for X-men fans. The X-men comics have become so dire and grim. Mutants are being sterilized yet again and Marvel seems to be going out of their way to marginalize the X-men. With the cancellation of books like X-men 92, there aren’t many alternatives left for X-men fans. I want the X-men Supreme fanfiction series to be that alternative they can turn to when they’re tired of time travelers and sterilization. I want to make this fanfiction series as awesome as it can be while X-men fans navigate these dark times. To do that, I need feedback. I need lots of feedback. I’m open to all forms of criticism. I only ask that it be constructive. So help me make X-men Supreme more awesome! Either contact me directly with your comments or post your comments directly in the issue. Until next time, take care and best wishes. Excelsior!

Jack
